Grandmaster Ed Parker

Senior Grandmaster Ed Parker

The Father of American Karate

Ed Parker is regularly referred to as the "Father of American Karate". He was born in Hawaii where he first learned traditional Kenpō from William Chow and James Mitose.

He quickly realized that many of the traditional movements would no longer be effective in modern society or applicable to today's real-life self-defense situations. With this insight, he set out to create American Kenpo Karate, a system designed to be practical, logic-based, and effective.

His innovations revolutionized martial arts training, emphasizing scientific principles of motion and rapid-fire techniques tailored to the individual student.

"I come to you with only 'Karate', empty hands. I have no weapons, but should I be forced to defend myself, my principles or my honor, should it be a matter of life or death, of right or wrong; then here are my weapons, Karate, my empty hands."

— Ed Parker's Kenpo Creed
